Former President Donald Trump has pledged a total of $50 million for a fundraiser Saturday in Palm Beach, Florida, according to four sources.
Hosted by hedge-fund billionaire John Paulson, the event will benefit Trump's campaign, his Save America super PAC, the Republican National Committee and state chapters of the GOP under a joint fundraising agreement.
“Saturday's event means the GOP's finance team is all back home,” said one of the sources who plans to attend the fundraiser. “To create a record.”
Trump held a call with donors and fundraisers on Friday in which he said he expects to double the amount Democrats raised at a recent Democratic event, according to one of the other sources on the call.
It was not immediately clear if all of the promised money would be collected by Saturday night.
Since announcing his campaign to win back the White House after the 2022 midterm elections, Trump has struggled to shore up his coffers — partly because of sluggish fundraising and partly because much of his campaign money was diverted to defend him against criminal charges. In four separate cases.
But once-reluctant Republican donors have returned to the fold in the weeks since he locked up the party's nomination. Saturday's fundraising extravaganza included several high-dollar donors who stayed away from Trump.
Last week, Biden and former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton attended a unique fundraiser for Democrats at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Like Trump, Biden raised for his campaign and for friendly companies that spent on his behalf. The Democratic event grossed $26 million.
