Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink has torn his ACL

Los Angeles Sparks rookie center Cameron Brink has a torn ACL in his left knee.

The Sparks reported the injury On Wednesday. Brink injured his knee Tuesday night against the Connecticut Sun and will undergo further evaluation on Wednesday.

Brink suffered the injury while driving to the basket in the first quarter. Her knees buckled and she fell to the floor in pain. She needed help from her teammates to her feet and was eventually carried off the floor by trainers.

The news is a blow to Brink, the Sparks, the WNBA and Team USA. Brink is one of the WNBA’s brightest young stars after going No. 2 to the Sparks in the draft out of Stanford. She was a special member of a freshman class, including Kaitlyn Clark, Camila Cardoso and Angel Reese, that helped the league skyrocket in popularity.

In 15 games, Brink’s averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.1 steals. A month into his career, he’s already one of the league’s most popular players on the court and on social media.

Brink was recently selected as a member of the USA 3×3 basketball team for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Team USA must select his replacement before the Games, which begin on July 26.
