“Century Red” – Paint the city red with new uniforms to celebrate the franchise’s rich history.
The uniform platform is the culmination of a two-year process with the NFL and recalls the early days of uniform ownership. The tan pants, paired with red and blue striped socks, are a throwback to the original uniforms worn during the inaugural season in 1925, when founder Tim Mara famously purchased the team for $500.
The meaning behind the ‘Century Red’ jerseys
Red jerseys have been accented with blue since 1933 when the Giants played in the first NFL Championship Game. As the Giants became a cornerstone of the NFL’s foundation, there is an iconic winged helmet honoring the 1938 champions.
All of the team’s 2024 jerseys will feature the team’s “100 Seasons” patch. The Giants will wear the uniforms for two games this season.
“I feel like it’s harsh and primitive,” linebacker Bobby Okerek said in a team release. “It was bittersweet when they were out there in the 1920s, 1930s. It’s a testament to all the guys who played before. They paved the way for us to play this great game.
Added outside linebacker Kavon Thibodeaux: “I like that we’re sticking to the tradition and paying it forward.”
The “Century Red” jersey will feature a special “100 Seasons” patch that comes with its own story.
The monument was created to showcase the franchise’s history, with a background shield inspired by the shape of the polo field—the team’s first home in 1925—and zeros modeled on the outline of Giants Stadium.
The team’s classic skyline is recreated at the base of the logo to represent each player who wears a Giants uniform. The player is overlaid on a football named “The Duke” in honor of Wellington Mara and has eight laces representing the team’s eight NFL championships.
