Cowboys owner Jerry Jones explained himself to The Athletic after Tuesday’s radio comments.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made headlines Tuesday morning when he got angry during one of his weekly radio interviews.

Jones took exception to the question as he spoke on the team’s flagship radio station, 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. Jones conducts interviews with the station on Tuesday and Friday mornings. He also participates in pregame interviews for the station.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever go as loud as (calling),” Jones said. “Okay? But the truth is, if I get grilled by the tribunal, it won’t necessarily be by the guys I’m paying. I can take it from fans and I can take it from other people. I am very proud of how fair and how much effort we make to work with the media, we are brothers and sisters. But I was a little disappointed there today.

“We got there by accounting for decisions made in the offseason. Right? They might as well have gone back to decisions made in 2010. My opinion, it’s my opinion, no question, I’m sure they’re going to grill me like the fans think, what are you going to do about it? I get it. I get all that really goes along with it.”

Jones explained how his frustration stemmed from people asking questions, but that wasn’t necessarily the topic.

“The wrong people are asking questions. Now, if they had been real fans sitting there or football people who knew what they were talking about, I might have had a different answer.

Jones also made it clear that he has no plans to make any significant changes to his coaching staff. Most of Dallas’ coaches are either on one-year contracts or in the final year of their contracts. Coach Mike McCarthy is in the final year of his five-year contract.

The Cowboys lost 47-9 to the Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, their worst home loss in Jones’ 35 years as owner and general manager.

“Absolutely,” Jones said when asked about sticking with McCarthy and his coordinators. “Didn’t even remotely think about it. But the game comes back and forth. It’s obvious what we did wrong. You can see it. The same guys who made mistakes in the last few months have done it right many times, so I know they can go out there and fix it.

“The point is, what do you do? Whatever you do, go out there and do your techniques or do your effort, do those things, you do it right, and you’re going to be in games where you don’t get out of hand, and you’re going to win.”

Jones said he still believes in a team that enters the week at 3-3.

“Of course we do,” he said. “We have a great staff. I’m proud of our staff.

Will Dallas try to improve the roster by making any moves before the trade deadline?

“Didn’t think so,” Jones said.
