DC-area forecast: Heat won’t let up today. Cools down by Friday, then warms up again.

*Heat advisory Today Noon to 8pm*

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

1/10: A good wind is the only saving grace of another hellishly hot and humid day.

  • Today: Hot and very humid. An isolated afternoon storm? Highs: Mid to upper 90s.
  • Tonight: Showers and storms in the evening, slightly less humid at night. Lows: Low to mid 70s.
  • Tomorrow: Not too hot and humid. An isolated afternoon storm? Highs: Low to mid 90s.

Friday may struggle to reach 90 and brings a better chance for much-needed rain. So don’t say we never bring you good news, okay? As of today, it’s another brutal heat and humidity, with a few showers and storms possible this evening. Not quite as hot or humid tomorrow, but we’re headed back in the wrong direction this weekend and into next week.

Today (Wednesday): Partly mostly sunny, hot and humid. Afternoon highs should be in the mid to upper 90s with heat index highs of 105 to 110. A difference today is a noticeable wind from the south, increasing to 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon. So it should move the air a bit, although this will only serve to reinforce the moisture from the south. An isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible in the afternoon. Confidence: Medium High

Tonight: A line of showers and storms is seen crossing the region from west to east as a cold front moves in between 6pm and midnight. However, it is uncertain whether it will be a solid line that submerges the entire region or a line broken by rains and storms. A few storms may have damaging winds. The humidity starts to drop a bit with the wind blowing out of the west and lows in the mid to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Heat and humidity are a little more reasonable. Highs in the mid 90s with mostly sunshine. Mild humidity (dew spots in the mid-60s) will push the heat index a degree or two higher with light winds from the west. An isolated afternoon shower or storm is the only chance as the front pushes eastward. Confidence: Medium High

Tomorrow night: There is still a chance of an isolated shower or storm later in the evening. A few showers and storms may develop overnight as humidity climbs back into the mid 70s with lows. Confidence: Medium

Occasional rain and storms are common Friday through Friday night As the front turns in our direction. The chance of the highest number of showers and storms is higher east of DC and near I-95 and lower west. Humidity has picked up again, but we expect plenty of clouds and much-needed rain, with cool highs in the low 80s to near 90. Friday night lows drop into the mid-70s. Confidence: Medium

for that Weekend, the front could be close enough for a few showers and storms on Saturday, as temperatures climb back into the upper 90s to low 90s. We’re heading into the low to mid 90s on Sunday, with little chance of rain or storms. Both days should be partly sunny with moderate humidity. Confidence: Medium
