The Louisville Metro Police Department is expected to release video footage Thursday of Scotty Scheffler’s arrest during last week’s PGA Championship.
During a news conference with Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and LMPT President Jacqueline Quinn-Villaroyal, the department said it would also provide ET with an update on its internal investigation surrounding the World No. 1 case. LMPD said at the time it would address any “policy violations” related to Scheffler’s case.
said Scheffler’s attorney, Steven Romines Athletic Pole camera footage of Scheffler’s arrest outside the PGA Championship will be made public, and the video will be consistent with Scheffler’s statements about the incident.
“My condition will be fine. It’s a confusing situation and a huge misunderstanding,” Scheffler said Friday after being released from jail to tee off at Valhalla Golf Club.
Romines also commented on upcoming scenes. Greenberg previously said the Louisville police officer who detained Scheffler did not have a body camera.
Louisville police arrested Scheffler shortly after 6 a.m. Friday after he tried to go around a traffic jam caused by a fatal crash earlier that morning.
According to the arrest report, Scheffler was driving eastbound when he attempted to steer his vehicle into the westbound lane. Detective Brian Gillis tried to instruct Scheffler to stop, but he went ahead and, as the report said, “pulled the detective to the ground.” Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault on a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding a traffic signal from an officer directing traffic.
“When they got me out of the car — like I said, it was really confusing, and I said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m just trying to get to my tee time,'” Scheffler said Friday. “Outside of that, things kind of escalated from there. I made a lot of apologies, and whatever, like I said, it was chaotic, it was dark, it was raining, there were a lot of things going on. That’s when they had an accident. I don’t know what happened at the time, a Except for the accident. Like I said, my heart goes out to the family. I just tried to be as calm as possible.”
Scheffler’s arraignment is scheduled for June 3.
